How To Draw Rick And Morty Portal
Well here we are, my first ever tutorial! And it's on something I've never shared here before.
I'm just going to go ahead and assume you don't have any Copics, because they're crazy expensive. I got mine for Christmas, and all 23 totalled out to around $250. They are alcohol-based markers (Rick's favourite) that are meant for professional artists; the reason that they are so expensive is because of how well they blend. If you don't have copics, stay tuned for my next tutorial soon- it includes just basic coloured pencils.
If you do have copics, follow this guide to make a portal of your own! I'd seriously recommend reading the steps before attempting this, as the ink will dry pretty fast before blending.
:star: THE TUTORIAL :star:
•Step One•
Sort out your copics. I've laid out the five that I will be using, along with a green sharpie pen. I've chosen three which are green, one that is green blue, and one blue. You can use as little or as many copics as you want with varying colours, but just try to stick to the steps.
•Step Two•
Take your lightest colour and use it as a base. Draw a wobbly circle-like shape.
I'm referencing the size of my art to my circle shape. Try not to make it too big, or else it will drain your copics.
•Step Three•
With the same colour, apply slightly more pressure and trace inward, like so.
After this, take your secondary, deeper colour and trace over that. Draw more pronounced, wobbly lines with the third farther within the portal—
•Step Four•
Use your fourth colour to create dark, irregular patterns and squiggles. I used the flat tip end of my copic, but it's up to you, depending on the style of lines.
Make sure to blend these in with the lighter colours, finally filling in the centre.
•Step Five•
Take your final copic and go wild with it. Draw everywhere and anywhere, all over your portal in a circular motion. This will give the impression of it spinning.
•Step Six• (optional)
Trace the outer layer with an off-colour tint of your first. Because my base copic was green, I'm using yellow. After this was done, I took my green sharpie and sloppily outlined the edges. I currently don't have any liquid paper, but to give it a more cartoonish, polished look, I would suggest adding that near the center.
Bonus Traditional Art!
Thanks for reading, and I hope that you enjoyed!
